Leonardo DiCaprio’s stellar performance was displayed during a voter’s screening of The Revenant and it’s said to help him get a potential Oscar.

Imagine being out on an expedition during the 1820’s, getting mauled by a bear and being betrayed by your expedition companions…Doesn’t exactly seem ideal when the 1820’s wasn’t exactly the era of great technology. In The Revenant, Leonardo DiCaprio plays character Hugh Glass and is placed in the situation laid out above during his exploration of the Dakota Territory. Inspired by true events, the film is said to follow DiCaprio on his journey and his revenge mission that ensued.

The film is directed by Alejandro Inarritu following his very successful first film, Birdman. Birdman brought Inarritu three Oscars, and after The Revenant screened at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Goldwyn Theater for voters Monday night, it’s predicted he’ll be on the ballot for more.

The movie’s run time is an expected two and a half hours…not your normal afternoon matinée. The film being set during a historical period, focuses on the beautiful western setting which is said to be nothing less than perfect. But that’s not what was the most amazing part of the movie. DiCaprio’s performance apparently will help him take the cake for Best Actor at the Oscars.

DiCaprio has never won Best Actor despite being nominated a grand total of four times in his acting career. Yet, The Revenant might be his golden ticket to the golden trophy. Voters at the screening and interviewers during the post screening Q&A were raving about DiCaprio’s performance throughout the film. DiCaprio claimed that it was “the most difficult film that I think any of us have done,” while Innaritu added that “it was like rock climbing without a rope.” The film is set to release on January 8th, and DiCaprio will potentially be up against the likes of Will Smith and Johnny Depp for Best Actor.
