[dropcap size=small]J[/dropcap]ust when you thought that the Dinosaur movie genre was extinct, Universal Pictures re-opened the park with Jurassic World, the 4th installment of the series. Since its release it has been swallowing up box office records all over the place.

The most recent record is the 13 days it took the movie to cross the $1B mark, topping the previous record holder Furious 7 which achieved the feat in 17 days. Moving through this past weekend it set yet another record for the highest grossing movie in its 2nd weekend with $106.6M. In fear of sounding like a broken record, JW also set the record for fastest movie to reach $400M domestically and $500M internationally.

The box office successes of both Jurassic World and Furious 7 have crowned Universal Pictures as the fastest studio to hit $3B in global box-office revenue, and the year is still young.

It is still too early to tell if Jurassic World will have the longevity to overcome the all time domestic ($760.5M) and global ($2.7B) box-office records. If you haven’t had time to go see Jurassic World yet, find time.
