Shell no.
It looks like we’re not going to get a third Michael Bay produced live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
In an interview with Collider, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows producer Andrew Form explained that the poor box office performance of Out of the Shadows probably means a new movie in the series probably won’t happen.
” I don’t think there’s Turtles 3,” said Form. “But I wouldn’t say there’s never going to be another Turtles movie.”
While the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a hit, grossing $493.3 million worldwide back in 2014, Out of the Shadows only managed to bring in $245.6 million worldwide, nearly half of what the first film made.
Form also spoke to why the poor performance of Out of Shadows, unsure of why the film couldn’t find an audience.
“We were obviously surprised at the box office results. We loved the movie. We loved making the movie. From our first Super Bowl teaser to everything we launched, we felt so good about our material, and for some reason it did not find the audience that the first movie found. “
Even with Casey Jones, Bebop, Rocksteady, Baxter Stockman, and Krang, Out of the Shadows did indeed fail to find an audience. Maybe fans of the original series felt burnt after the 2014 film, or fans simply dismissed Out of the Shadows as a dumb sequel, or maybe just nobody cared.
Whatever the reason, we’re sure the Turtles will return to theaters in one way or another.
Real talk: I absolutely love the first Out of the Shadows trailer. I could care less about the actual film, but for whatever reason I can’t get enough of this teaser.
