A Scarface remake might be coming to theaters soon, and the director seat is looking to be filled.
It’s been over 30 years since the 1983 adaptation of Scarface and over 75 years since the original that came out in 1932. While we don’t know who will attempt to follow Al Pacino’s Tony Montana performance, recent news tells us that Southpaw director, Antoine Fuqua might be sitting in the director’s seat. Negotiations are ongoing according to Deadline, but a draft of the script has been written by Jonathan Herman and Fuqua is claimed to be on the shortlist to have received the said script.
The film looks to follow a similar plotline of the original “rags to riches” story, but instead of being based in Miami, the new Scarface film will supposedly take place in Los Angeles. Fuqua seems like a no-brainer for the crime-filled remake given his recent track record working on films like Training Day, The Equalizer, and the upcoming movie Magnificent Seven. While there is no estimated release date, the Scarface remake is said to be a current priority for Universal.
