Unfortunately, no, this isn’t Jackie Chan Adventures: The Movie.
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]e have good and bad news for you guys. The good news: Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger are teaming up for a fantasy/horror/action film that takes place during the time of Russia’s Peter the Great. The bad news: It is a sequel to the 2014 Russian box office hit Viy and so the film might not be released in theaters here in the United States.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan will be joining cast members Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels), Charles Dance, Martin Klebba and Christopher Fairbank for the film. Oleg Stepchenko will be directing the film and Stepchenko, Dmitry Palcev, and Petrukhin will be writing the screenplay. Viy-2 follows the English explorer Jonathan Green (Jason Flemyng) as he sets out to map the Far East of Russia on orders from Peter the Great.
“The cartographer will face many breathtaking discoveries, encounter bizarre creatures, meet with Chinese princesses, and confront deadly martial-arts masters and the Dragon King.”
Since the original film made $33.2 million at Russia’s box office and was released in international territories there is the chance that the film might be released in select theaters here in the United States. After all, the film is made up of multicultural cast members and the film could bring in even more revenue if it was released elsewhere.
Viy-2 is expected to be released sometime next year.
