Zorro is back!
[dropcap size=small]G[/dropcap]ael Garcia Bernal has been picked by director Jonás Cuarón to be Zorro in the new film Z. Cuarón will be writing and directing the film, which is to start shooting later this fall.
Garcia and Cuarón have already teamed up for the film Desierto so there is already a history for the two to build on. The role of Zorro is also a tough mantle to take up but for Golden Globe winner, Best Actor for Mozart in the Jungle, Gael Garcia Bernal it should be no trouble. Producer Mark Amin had this to say about Garcia,
“I have always loved Gael for this role. Zorro is a hero who is charming, witty and clever. Gael possesses all those characteristic and he’s able to deliver them with a modern spin to introduce the Zorro character to a new audience.”
Cami Winikoff and Lantica Pictures will also be producing the film alongside Mark Amin while Pantelion Films will be in charge with the international sale of the film.
Z is going to be a re-imagining of the the classic Zorro tale but it will be set in the near future.
There is no release date for Z but it will start shooting later this year.
