Channing Tatum’s dream to play Gambit in an X-Men movie is getting closer and closer to finally becoming a reality. Even more so now that the film has secured its director.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]fter passes from directors like Darren Aronofsky and Gareth Evans, EW is officially reporting that Rupert Wyatt (most recently known for directing Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Gambler) is officially signed on to direct 20th Century Fox’s Gambit.
Though this will be a completely new film, it will mark the second appearance of the character on the big screen. Six years ago, Taylor Kitsch first portrayed the card slinging mutant in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, however, the studio felt it would be best if a different actor played him this time around. Enter Channing Tatum.
Given what we’ve seen from him lately, Tatum should have no problem making Gambit fans proud. The only real area of concern lies with the fact that the film’s screenplay is being penned by Joshua Zetumer, a man who only has 2014’s RoboCop reboot under his belt. Yikes, hopefully everything turns out alright.
Gambit hits theaters on Oct. 7, 2016.
