At long last, Dragon Ball has crossed over into the world of Epic Games’ major battle royale game, Fortnite. The event, which kicked off earlier today, sees the likes of Goku, Vegeta, Beerus, Bulma, Shenron, and a bunch of iconic Dragon Ball locations coming to the island for you to visit and explore.
But first, the gameplay trailer:
Video Description
Visit the Dragon Ball Adventure Island (available August 19, 2022) to explore locations inspired by Dragon Ball Super, check out select episodes at the Dragon Ball Super Episode Festival row in Discover, visit the new “Power Unleashed!” Tab to complete quests to raise your power level and earn Dragon Ball-related free rewards, drop into the Battle Royale Island and pick up the Kamehameha to blast Goku’s iconic skill and ride around on the Nimbus Cloud (Kintoun).
On the official Epic Games blog, the Fortnite Team laid everything out in full regarding what players can expect when they boot the game up today as Dragon Ball takes over the island. One major new change is the “Power Unleashed” tab which contains all the new quest details and rewards.
POWER UNLEASHED
This new tab will be available to all players for free as they complete quests, earn those rewards, and grow their power level throughout the event.
According to the blog posts, players will have their skills tested in “Seven sets of Quests” with each set rewarding a Dragon Ball upon completion while raising the players’ power level. The rewards include a ton of cool stuff, including emotes, sprays, back bling, and more.
When players complete the seven quest sets and earn all seven Dragon Balls, they will be rewarded with the Shenron Glider.
The Power Unleashed quests will only be around for a limited time, ending on August 30th at 4:00a ET so you had better get to it sooner than later. Epic Games ads that other in-game rewards such as the Shenron Glider and Dragon Radar Back Bling are not exclusive to Power Unleashed quests and will be available for purchase in the Item Shop after the 30th.
VERSUS BOARDS
As a part of this event, Epic Games is introducing the Versus Boards which puts two players in a five-minute fight against each other on the island. We haven’t tried this yet but it sounds like two players will be going at each other either just by themselves to take each other on or it just places a marker on the island showing you where your opponent is while in the middle of the standard Battle Royale.
UNLEASH THE POWER OF THE KAMEHAMEHA
Players will have discovered by now that they will be able to blast massive amounts of energy at each other with the Kamehameha as an item that can be picked up on the island. Players will also be able to equip the Flying Nimbus and traverse around the island on it through the sky. These two equipable come from Capsules that appear on the island will appear more frequently as the storm closes in.
Note: The Kamehameha and Nimbus Cloud (Kintoun) items are not in Competitive (Arena or Tournament) playlists, with the exception of the Tournament of Power.
LOCATE BULMA
Bulma is one of four available skins that can be picked up but will also be in-game found on Kame House island, home of Master Roshi himself. While Roshi doesn’t appear to be home for the time being, Bulma is available to barter with and provide items in exchange for Bars.
EPISODE FESTIVAL
Starting tomorrow and running through September 17th, players will be able to watch select Dragon Ball Super episodes (Episodes 09, 10, 11, 13, 81, 98). The big screen can be found on a cruise ship that will play these episodes for players while on board. A nice addition to be sure but we can’t imagine you won’t get knocked or eliminated while trying to kick back and watch these episodes. Although, it sounds like there might be a method to watch the episodes without having to worry about someone sneaking up behind you and taking you out.
DRAGON BALL COLLECTING
Starting on the 19th, another activity will be introduced in-game which is being described as a “Dragon Ball collecting adventure”. What that means exactly isn’t clear but players can explore iconic Dragon Ball locations including Kami’s Lookout (now Dende’s Lookout), Goku’s House, and more.
Also, a player-vs-player battle arena “Tenkaichi Budokai” experience is also mentioned. As to what that entails, we aren’t sure either.
TOURNAMENT OF POWER
In just a couple of days, a competitive playlist is coming as a part of the “Tournament of Power”. On August 18th, players can participate in up to ten Fortnite matches within a three-hour time window which is region specific and will contain the following prizes:
- Top 50% on Main Leaderboard: Angry Vegeta Emoticon
- 8 Points Earned on Main Leaderboard: Goku’s Kanji Banner Icon
-
3 Points Earned from Eliminations with a Kamehameha: Beerus Eating Spray
We can’t say any of that sounds particularly exciting but to each their own.
ITEM SHOP x DRAGON BALL
All of the skins for the event are available in the Item Shop immediately. This includes Goku, Vegeta, Bulma, and Beerus.
Goku will come with alternate styles in his Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan Blue, and Ultra Instinct forms along with a charging-up built-in emote.
Vegeta comes with Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan Blue, and Super Saiyan Blue Evolved alternate styles along with a charging-up built-in emote.
Bulma comes with one alternate style of her in a labcoat.
Beerus is the only one of the four without any alternate styles but it isn’t like the God of Destruction really needs it.
In addition to skins, a bunch of Back Blings, Pickages, Emotes, and Gliders are also available which include the Seer Fish, Power Pole, Roshi’s back shell, Saiyan Space Pod (attack ball), Nimbus, and more. Bundles are also available to save you a few V-Bucks here and there.
The Fortnite x Dragon Ball Super collaboration event is available now on all available platforms for free with a handful of paid items such as the skins. That said, the event sounds like it is saving a select few activities for later that may be of interest to you so keep an eye out. And while the skins are something we will definitely pick up, we can’t help but hold out hope that other skins like Piccolo, Gohan, Broly, and others might become available later.
The event is said to last only seven weeks and as you know, time flies when you are having fun so don’t wait. Jump in and gather the Dragon Balls. The Eternal Dragon awaits!
