E! True Hollywood Story passed on the idea, but writer and director Christopher Downie, Brett Murray, and Felix Kay are up to the challenge!
Having written, directed, produced, and acted in films such as Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks 2, and many others, it was inevitable that someone would want to tell this man’s story.
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he result of said challenge is a film called Shooting Clerks, a biopic that focuses mainly on the struggles that Kevin Smith went through to get his first film Clerks made. If you’re unfamiliar with Clerks it’s really just a day in the life of two friends that happen to also be foul-mouthed convenience store clerks. And one of them wasn’t even supposed to be there today!
The film ultimately had a budget of $27,575 that Smith scrounged up in any way he could, such as selling most of his comics, maxing out multiple credit cards, and using his college education fund.

Shooting Clerks looks to be an interesting (read: weird) take on Kevin Smith and his early indie film, but we’ll have to watch the whole thing before we make any judgements.
It is currently set to release on April 13 in the UK with a wide release hopefully later on this year.
