‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is Coming; No Virus Questions Will be Answered

Fans of The Walking Dead might be sad to hear that their burning questions regarding the zombie virus are destined to remain unanswered.

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he upcoming spin-off series Fear The Walking Dead apparently has more important things to focus on. Creator Robert Kirkman has blatantly stated that the new show would not spend time on the history of the zombie virus and that it would take place in a period where the walkers are a massive threat to the remaining survivors. It sounds a lot like The Walking Dead to us, except this story takes place in Los Angeles.

“Learning the origins is not the priority in The Walking Dead; that’s not the priority in Fear The Walking Dead. Every other story deals with that stuff and we’re concerned about the heart.”

Oh yeah, the heart… whatever that means. As long as we get to see zombies eating people and occasionally getting their faces blown off, we’re in.

A teaser for Fear The Walking Dead debuted during The Walking Dead’s season 5 finale, where we see shots of the LA skyline while a voice-over speaks of a flu that is spreading over the US. Check it out below.

In an interview with IBTimes UK the show’s director Greg Nicotero mentioned that the spin-off series would be significantly different from the original.

“It’s really fascinating. What we’ve been able to do is we’ve been able to craft a show that lives in a universe but feels like a completely different show. We didn’t want a carbon copy of The Walking Dead because that wouldn’t be prudent. I just don’t think it would have made a lot of sense. So having the show set in Los Angeles at a completely different time as walkers are beginning to take over the world… The idea, much like our show, it’s really about the relationships and about the families and how they handle it and deal with it, so it’s fascinating.”

“I also love the fact that we’ve moved to a civilization. I think it really deepens the show and it feels like we’re moving into a new area where you find a man who is very hard-lined and we are damaged goods. We’ve come into this community and it’s like we are the poison and they’re a bunch of innocents.”

Yup, it still sounds a lot like The Walking Dead to us. I guess we’ll have to watch it before we can truly understand what makes it different from the original. Some people doubted Better Call Saul too, and that show is awesome.

Fear The Walking Dead stars Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, and Alycia Debnam-Carey. Written by Dave Erickson and Robert Kirkman. Directed by Adam Davidson. Be sure to look for it on AMC sometime this summer.
