‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot Undergoes Reshoots, Teaser Announced

-

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he upcoming Fantastic Four reboot has garnered some less than favorable attention when it was revealed that the film was undergoing reshoots with one unnamed Twentieth Century Fox executive calling the project “a mess,” according to a report by comic/movie news site Bleeding Cool.

Later that same day the film’s screenwriter Simon Kinberg sat down with Latino Review and shed some light on a few things:

“To confirm — Fantastic Four will be doing 3-4 days of additional photography with director Josh Trank and some key cast members. We are very excited about the film and can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been up to. And you will be able to do that very soon as I can confirm here that the teaser will be on Kingsman in theaters February 13.”

It’s a good move by Fox to attach the film’s teaser to Kingsman: The Secret Service (another Marvel property), and Kinberg made the most of the negative situation by announcing the teaser’s release date in an effort to maintain that the film is not in trouble.

The next day Fox’s public relations team reached out to Bleeding Cool to emphasize that it is “relatively standard for some pick up shots with the director post the main shoot wrapping.” However, the site was informed by crew members that reshoots had already been underway for some time, millions of dollars had been allocated for the process, and the film’s sets in Louisiana were being rebuilt.

But it’s gotta be better than this, right?

While the film seems to be hitting a few roadblocks, all of the extra time spent on the project could end up benefitting fans of the Fantastic Four franchise. The first two films definitely left something to be desired, and Fox has proven in recent years that the studio takes its comic book properties very seriously. The current X-Men series of films has been outstanding, so I am hopeful that the studio can replicate that level of creativity in the reboot of this beloved franchise.

Do you think Fantastic Four will overcome its challenges and become another blockbuster comic book movie? Let us know in the comments!

Kingsman: The Secret Service hits the big screen with the Fantastic Four teaser on February 13, and Fantastic Four storms into theaters on August 7.

  1. First of all, my comments are not towards Michael. I am writing this for the upcoming abomination named “Four Fantastic Douchebag”. For some people (specially the fans), comic book is religion. the superheroes are Gods or Idols. now suddenly some class one a**holes (the film makers) come from nowhere and tell these people to change their ‘religion’, all in the name of “artistic freedom”, and feel optimistic about box office results. next time I want Leonardo DiCaprio to play the role of Luke Cage (once again “artistic freedom”, right?). even after a DBZ movie and one GL movie, some people choose to be blind. what can anyone do in such a situation.

    • JB,

When you have a point, you have a point. And though I agree, I have to give the other side a chance and play devil’s advocate.

Though a lot of changes definitely can ruin a franchise “DB Evolution” a prime example with no excuse. But we made that call before the films release, and the confirmation once we saw it. Had it been good, we would have voiced a very different opinion.

At this time, the changes to this film do sound absurd, and fanboys have every right to be up-in-arms. Though the movie has not been released, there could be a chance that the film pleasantly surprises us. And it may help that comic fans should remember that their comic book source materials are not being tarnished through the poor result of an altered version of the property to film.

Point is, comic fans love comics, but have more negative views seemingly when that property becomes a movie. Perhaps it isnt wise to change “religions”, as you say, but rather recognize the differences and similarities between the different religious perspectives. After all, most religions are only so different as the voices that follow them, right?

But yeah, this movie is doomed.
