With great power comes great responsibility. And fan theories. And dank memes.
Next to a certain red-headed pop star showing up in Game of Thrones, my favorite surprise of 2017 is the Deadpool 2 teaser No Good Deed. Airing before screenings of Logan, this goofy teaser isn’t really a trailer for Deadpool 2, but rather an always welcome reminder that Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool, and bless his heart.
A popular theory raised from No Good Deed is that the old man who Deadpool failed to save is actually Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben. You know, Uncle Ben? Who previously died over his nephew being short-changed at a convenience store? Hope that chocolate milk was worth it, Pedro.
ANYWAY, fans of the comics know that Deadpool and Spider-Man have great chemistry, so was that really Uncle Ben in the teaser? Is this hinting at a potential Spidey/Merc with a Mouth team-up?!
Eh, probably not. Here’s what Deadpool 2 director David Leitch had to say when asked about this theory by Huffington Post:
“That’s a really interesting question. I think that people should continue to theorize who that old man was.”
Translation: nope. I appreciate the playful answer from Leitch, but Spider-Man and Deadpool will probably never share the silver screen together as long as Sony and Fox respectively own those film rights. Will Reynolds as Deadpool point this out sometime in the sequel? We wouldn’t doubt it. Again, bless his heart.
Deadpool 2 hits theaters on June 1, 2018.
