The replica Pip-Boy from Fallout will not be large enough to fit phones that are 5.5″ diagonally.

[dropcap size=small]C[/dropcap]oupled with the upcoming Fallout 4 Special Edition will be a replica Pip-Boy that holds your phone and can allow you to run the Fallout 4 companion app while playing the game. The replica of the Fallout ‘smart watch of tomorrow’ can be a very tantalizing offer for some of the hardcore fans of the series, but one problem has arisen in the design of the Pip-Boy: it does not have the capability to fit all phones.
In a post on the Bethesda Blog, it was confirmed that the replica Pip-Boy will have foam inserts that can fit iPhone 6, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 4/4S, Samsung Galaxy 5, Samsung Galaxy 4, and many other smartphones that are similar in size and shape to the ones listed above. Smartphones on the larger side like the iPhone 6+ and the Galaxy Note family will not fit into the Pip-Boy but will still be able to run the companion app.
In a statement on the blog, Bethesda said, “As we wanted to stay faithful to the dimensions of the in-game model, any smartphones larger than the models listed will not fit inside the wearable device. For these larger devices, our Pip-Boy companion app will still be available.”
This comes as a huge bummer to anyone owning these larger smartphones, but who knows; maybe the design will be changed around so the superior-sized phone users can get in on the Pip-Boy goodness.
Fallout 4 releases on November 10th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
