The Borderlands movie has been in and out of development for quite some time, with many expecting the movie to be stuck without progress permanently. Now we know that the movie is indeed gaining traction after Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford confirmed Eli Roth as the director earlier today on Twitter.

Eli Roth, best known as the director for Hostel and Cabin Fever, and possibly his role as ‘the bear jew’ in Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, is directing the movie based on a script from Emmy award winner Craig Marzin. Ari and Avi Arad will be teaming up with Erik Feig as producers on the video game adaptation for Lionsgate.

Roth had this to say in a recent statement:

“I’m so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands, and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team and studio. I have a long, successful history with Lionsgate — I feel like we have grown up together and that everything in my directing career has led to a project of this scale and ambition.”

Whether the movie follows a particular game in the franchise, or if it’s going to follow its own unique story is not confirmed. No further details on the cast or an expected release date have been shared either.
