[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]ragon Ball Super has officially hit the small screen with its first episode. Dragon Ball Super, taking place only several months after Kid Buu is defeated, picks up in the fields. No, not the fields of battle. Apparently, Goku is now a farmer, and Goten is breaking all child labor laws by driving the tractor. Cut to Beerus and Whis, making their appearance in the first episode, doing usual Destruction God things such as visiting planets, taste-testing and destroying them. An unnamed planet, populated with pig-people, is destroyed, by the tap of a finger, seconds after a dissatisfying meal. This is solid evidence that Beerus could still be a threat to Earth.

Good ol’ Mr Satan, continues to lie at press conferences, only to have a confrontation with his new buddy, Majin Buu, about telling the truth. It’s unclear, to me, what was being spoken about, but I’m sure it had something to do with saving the world. The dynamic duo, Trunks and Goten, are up to trouble — as usual, looking for ways to get money to buy Videl a present. After realizing their price range is between free and zero, they settle with a bottle of “hot spring” water, only to be confronted by a large snake who inhabits the area. Trunks makes light work of him and the bottle of gross lake water is safe, so it’s off to deliver the present.

Mr. Satan strolls up to Goku, in his potato fields, in his self-branded car, where he offers Goku a suitcase full of Zeni. I’m not exactly sure what the offer was, but I’m sure it’s fighting related because, in the next scene, Goku brings the money to Chi Chi and Instant Transmissions off to continue being a horrible dad. The last scene shows Kibito Kai and Elder Kai staring off into the distance, with possible mentions of a mysterious power. This isn’t surprising but, overall, the episode was very lighthearted and wastes no time setting up for the next big battle. There was nothing too groundbreaking, but it gives us a good perspective on where the Z-Fighters are post-Kid Buu. With Beerus up to something, we’ll probably see a recycle of the Battle of Gods storyline into the new series.
