Kamehame-huh?!
Although critically panned and universally despised by fans of the original series, Dragon Ball Evolution, the 2009 live-action adaptation of the Dragon Ball manga, is getting a sequel.
Tentatively titled Dragon Ball Revolution, 20th Century Fox revealed the film is set to begin production this summer.
Apparently, the sequel will follow the events of the Saiyan Saga, and feature characters introduced in Dragon Ball Z.
The main cast from Evolution is expected to reprise their roles, including Justin Chatwin as Goku, Emmy Rossum as Bulma, and James Marsters as Piccolo.
Casting is already underway for Revolution, with a few key character roles already been filled. Dylan Sprouse of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody fame has been cast as Raditz, Goku’s evil biological brother, with Cole Sprouse also signed on to be Dylan’s stunt double. Charlie Day is reportedly in talks to portray the proud Prince of Saiyans Vegeta, and Daniel Radcliffe is in final negotiations to portray Krillin.
“It’s the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Radcliffe in a recent interview. “I will be true to Krillin’s character while also offering something new. I’ve always been a huge fan of him.”
Apparently, a number of actors are in the lead to portray the character Nappa. Fox is struggling to choose between Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, and Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell. Although Harwell is currently in the running to take the coveted part, Fox is expected to make the final decision later this month.
With an All-Star cast and plans to make a Dragon Ball -tion cinematic universe if Revolution is a success, we’re actually pretty excited for this unexpected sequel.
Dragon Ball Revolution hits theaters summer 2018.
