“It’s got a gun and a sucker on it! Why? Did they run out of guns?”

[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]fter several months of silence BBC One has finally revealed the Twelfth Doctor’s newest companion, Bill! A trailer introducing the latest companion to the Doctor aired during The Emirates FA Cup semi-final showing off the Doctor, an angry Dalek and Pearl Mackie as Bill. Check out the trailer below!

The previous companion to Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, Clara Oswald, departed the series at the end of the ninth season in spectacular fashion leaving a spot open for anyone to take on the role as the Doctor’s companion. The role of the Doctor’s companion is a serious one and is one of the many driving factors that has kept Doctor Who alive and running for over fifty years. With that being said, Pearl Mackie seems unaffected by the pressure she is under to deliver an admirable companion and nothing short of excited to jump into the newest season of Doctor Who.

“Shooting the trailer was absolutely mental”, Pearl Mackie explained in an interview with BBC. “There were pyro technics and smoke and I met my first Dalek! I’m not sure it will ever become ‘the norm’ seeing crazy monsters on set, but I cannot wait to meet some more! The weirder the better, bring it on!”

Pearl Mackie has described the Doctor’s latest companion as “cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in. I can’t wait to bring her to life, and to see how she develops through the series.” Peter Capaldi, who has recently opened up about leaving the show after three seasons just like the two previous actors before him, is very happy to have Pearl Mackie join the show.

“It is a genuine delight to welcome Pearl Mackie to Doctor Who. A fine, fine actress with a wonderful zest and charm, she’s a refreshing addition to the TARDIS and will bring a universe of exciting new possibilities to The Doctor’s adventures.”

We can only hope that BBC One will continue to drop more trailers about the newest season of Doctor Who. After all, waiting until 2017 for the tenth season is an awfully long time. Unless, of course, you view time as a big ball of wibbly wobbly, time-y, wimey….stuff. In which case, time is irrelevant.

The tenth season of Doctor Who will return in 2017.
