Stop everything.
[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]The Room director Tommy Wiseau wants to do Fantastic Four 2. The world holds its breath.[/toggler]
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]ommy Wiseau wants to direct the sequel to Fantastic Four. You know, that box office abomination that may or may not have destroyed director Josh Trank’s career. Yep, that one. I know what you’re thinking: Tommy Wiseau is crazy, but anyone who has seen 2003’s The Room already knows that.
The Room, which sits atop the list of films so bad they’re amazing, followed closely by Troll 2 and Battlefield Earth, has become something of a cult hit. Rotten Tomatoes calls it a ‘bona fide classic of midnight cinema’, and it actually rates higher (35%) than Fantastic Four (9%).
Even now in 2015, everyone still wants to talk about The Room. Milwaukee Magazine caught up with Wiseau this week to do just that, and when they asked if the director had his eye on any upcoming projects, Wiseau put together this literary masterpiece:
‘You know, I told you I saw this Fantastic Four… It just – I’m not being critical – let me put it this way: I like it, I did enjoy it number one. Number two, it’s too bad they didn’t call me, that’s all I want to say and I rest my case. Good response in Europe though, that’s my understanding, but it’s too bad they didn’t call me, that’s my point. Maybe if there’s a sequel, you know. You know, maybe your article gets me that job, who knows what will happen?’
Somewhere in that little maze of poetry is a point: Tommy Wiseau wants to do Fantastic Four 2. And why not? I think we’d all rather watch two hours of Reed Richards and Johnny Storm wearing tuxedos and throwing a football around for no reason than rewatch even the first ten minutes of Fantastic Four. If FOX really wants to make it up to us, they’ll give us a Tommy Wiseau-directed Fantastic Four sequel.
Fantastic Four 2 comes out on June 9th, 2017. Watch The Room and thank me later.
