The search for the live-action movie director begins with a speed bump!

[dropcap size=small]L[/dropcap]ast month, Sony announced that they will be developing a live-action movie of Mulan. Sony’s first goal was to get a director for the movie. Disney’s first target to direct the movie: Ang Lee.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ang Lee has turned down the offer from Disney. There was no reason describing why Lee turned down the offer, but he’s already working with Sony on Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.

Mulan is slated to be released sometime in 2018, so Disney still has time to recruit a director and cast. But I doubt this is the only time Sony and Disney offer Lee the job. Especially if they are already working on a movie now. It’s only a matter of time before a director is chosen and this project begins production. It will be interesting to see how the live-action Disney movies will turn out, with Beauty and the Beast being among the first to be released.
