The Merc with a Mouth is all about house Hufflepuff!
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]e all know that Deadpool is a fun loving, gun toting, cheeky mercenary type, who’s a master at breaking the fourth wall, and doesn’t take himself – or anyone – too seriously.
So you might find yourself thinking he wouldn’t be the bookish type, but you’d be dead-wrong. Get it? Dead-wrong? Deadpool? See what I did there?
Okay, moving on.
A reddit user (via nerdist) posted about the fact that Deadpool is a certified Harry Potter fan, and not only that, they discovered he belongs to house Hufflepuff.
User kittenghost1 posted evidence of a flashback scene from a Deadpool comic, which sees Wade Wilson eagerly awaiting the chance to grab his very own copy of The Half Blood Prince at a bookstore; the key feature is that he’s donning a Hufflepuff robe:
As you can see in the panels, some seriously evil dude ruins it for our hero by shouting out a big juicy spoiler before he gets a chance to read it. We couldn’t think of anything more evil…Except for maybe Hitler…But that’s still pretty bad.
Nick Filardi (reddit user Nickfil), a colourist who worked on some Deadpool comics, verified Deadpool’s Hufflepuff allegiance:
You can’t argue with that. Deadpool is a Harry Potter fan who belongs to house Hufflepuff, and it’s canon.
The sorting hat says this of Hufflepuffs:
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil
Well, Deadpool is certainly unafraid of toil, but then, if you had regenerative healing powers, you would be wouldn’t you?
In his own way, Deadpool is very just and loyal, and stays very true to himself and what he believes in. We can totally see him belonging to this house.
And we’re just going to drop one of the best scenes from Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth # 5 here to back it up. Just look at how he sticks to his belief that Jar Jar Binks is an ‘abomination:’
Deadpool is awesome in so many ways, but you’ve got to love the fact that he geeks out like the rest of us.
And Harry Potter isn’t the only thing he moons over. He’s also a Star Trek buff (although he does apparently use it as a reference for anything science-related):
Just when you think Deadpool couldn’t get any cooler, he freezes us over with even more hilariously awesome character traits and interests.
