(So it’s coming to PS4 eventually.)Â
The fourth entry of the open-world zombie series Dead Rising was revealed last week during the Microsoft E3 press conference. When initially announced, it was unclear whether the game would be exclusive to Microsoft platforms, like the first and third game in the series, but we now have confirmation that the game will come to other platforms…eventually.Â
Microsoft recently issued a statement to GameSpot clarifying that Dead Rising 4 is a timed-exclusive for Xbox One and Windows 10, and that it will be available to all other platforms one year from now.Â
The statement is as follows:Â
“Dead Rising 4 on Xbox One is developed by Capcom and will be published in partnership with Microsoft. Fans will be able to play Dead Rising 4 first on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC this December. It will remain a Windows 10 exclusive for the first 90 days and console exclusive on Xbox One for one year. We’ve had a close and longstanding relationship with Capcom including the launch of Dead Rising as an Xbox 360 exclusive and Dead Rising 3 as an Xbox One exclusive. We’re thrilled to partner with Capcom once again to help bring their ambitious vision for Dead Rising 4 to life.”
So basically, you’ll be able to play Dead Rising 4 on Steam sometime next February, but PS4 owners will have to wait till December 2017.Â
Microsoft made a very similar third-party game exclusivity deal last year with Rise of the Tomb Raider, as said game was only on Xbox when it launched last November, with a PC port that arrived in January, and now game is supposedly coming to PS4 sometime this year.Â
It’s clear to us that Microsoft is trying to nail down big games to attract consumers to their second-place console, but third-party exclusivity is always a bummer. We’d prefer if everyone got the chance to play this wacky and jolly looking sequel as soon as possible, but that’s unfortunately not how the business of this industry goes. At least it is coming everywhere, even if it’s going to take a while.Â
Dead Rising 4 launches on Xbox One and Windows 10 on December 6.
It will be available on Steam and PS4 in 2017.Â
