[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n case you’ve been living under a rock (possibly hiding from The Walking Dead spoilers), zombies are still the most popular undead beings around, and open-world zombie games are all the rage. Now publisher Deep Silver has announced that the beta for Dead Island 2 will first become available on PlayStation 4 exclusively for 30 days before coming to Xbox One and PC.

No timeframe has been announced for the beta’s release, and as of now, the only way to have access is to have preordered Escape Dead Island, the spinoff entry in the Dead Island series that was released in November. It is likely that Deep Silver will announce other methods for accessing the beta once a specific release date becomes known. The game is being developed by the studio Yager (best known for developing Spec Ops: The Line) while the original Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide were both developed by Techland in Poland.

In the game, the zombie outbreak has spread to sunny California, so players have to fight off the undead with the Hollywood sign looming over them. And if that isn’t enough to satisfy your thirst for more zombie action, MOBA Dead Island: Epidemic is in development, and Deep Silver also announced its partnership with Occupant Entertainment to bring the popular series to the big screen.

Dead Island 2 has a projected release date of Spring 2015 and will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
