The latest trailer for the upcoming film featuring everyone’s favorite “Legendary Super Saiyan” has a major spoiler, and teases how he is defeated at the hands of Goku and Vegeta.
Broly has been in three animated films within the Dragon Ball Z film universe, which has been separate and not part of the main storyline of Dragon Ball Z which later went into Dragon Ball Super. However, with the success of Dragon Ball Super not slowing down even with the series finale, Broly is finally being re-imagined and brought into the story in a brand new way as an official part of the canon storyline. And now we pretty much know how he is defeated.
Disclaimer: While it may be hard to avoid spoilers, you may want to avoid checking out this trailer if you have been able to do so successfully up until this point.
Cool. I definitely didnt want to discover this myself in the theater. No big deal.
As you can see above, not only does Broly make his way into the canon, but so does Gogeta, and as a Super Saiyan Blue to boot. Gogeta was first featured in Fusion Reborn, a movie that saw Goku and Vegeta taking on a threat in Other World and being unable to use the Potara Earrings, they do the Fusion Dance to form a temporary 30-minute fusion and become Gogeta. The character was later a center piece to Dragon Ball GT, where Gogeta became a Super Saiyan 4. However, neither GT nor SS4 are considered canon either.
If the trailer is any indication, it’s clear that Gogeta, especially as a SSB, gains the upper-hand against Broly. And while it has not officially been revealed as the means of defeating Broly to bring this film to its end, it does all but pretty much shout it out in big, bold letters at your face.
This was not the first spoiler revealing SSB Gogeta in the film. I personally received emails on collectible merchandise tying into the film that featured Broly and SSB Gogeta, which really pissed me off since I had managed to avoid spoilers up until then. Not only that, but I had then received another social media notice that Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2 was receiving a new DLC drop also featuring SSB Gogeta from Bandai-Namco America. You can check out that trailer here:

I dont really understand exactly why these sort of marketing tactics were necessary, considering the massive surge in popularity and success Dragon Ball has received over these past couple years with Super, and Goku’s attendance as a major hot-air balloon at this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. I get that you want this film to see as many eyes as possible, and Bandai-Namco wants as many people to jump back into DBXV2 (especially with the success of the Switch port), but ruining an otherwise really cool reveal for fans is sort of scummy and inconsiderate.
Dragon Ball Super Movie: Broly is set to debut in Japan on December 14, 2018 with the English dub from Funimation receiving a world premier on December 13. North America will then see the film in select theaters on January 16, 2019.
