Laugh it up fuzzball!
Not a big shock here, Chewbacca is now officially confirmed for the Han Solo spinoff movie! Bob Iger, head at Disney, attended the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet and Telecom Conference Tuesday, and he brought some big news with him. He confirmed that the Han Solo standalone movie, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street and Lego Movie), will indeed feature Han’s right hand Wookiee for the film.
“We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewie. And that’ll come after ‘Star Wars 8’ in 2018. And then there’ll be possibly be more thereafter.”
Iger did talk a little bit about the marketing plan for the future Star Wars movies. The plan is to market the spinoff films differently, not to try to take away from the main stories, but still give attention to all films in the Star Wars Cinematic Universe.
Now again, this was not a huge surprise. Is there really a Han without Chewie? Fans already assumed that he would be apart of a young Han Solo film to begin with but now it has been confirmed. The actor who plays Chewbacca, Peter Mayhew, had teased that he had a special announcement to make, possibly the reveal that he would be a part of the film. Although it should be kept in mind that maybe this was not his news to reveal, so maybe there’s even more Chewbacca related news to be shared in the future.
The Han Solo spinoff film hits theaters on May 25, 2017.
