Is Amora the Enchantress heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Casting has seemingly begun for the anticipated third Thor movie, Ragnarok, and it appears as though an Oscar-winning actress may be heading to Asgard.

Variety reports that Cate Blanchett is in talks to play a new character for the upcoming film. As to whom she would play remains a mystery.

Blanchett is one of the most celebrated actresses of all time. She has six Oscar nominations under her belt, as well as a recent Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the romantic drama Carol.

So who could this critically lauded actress play in Thor: Ragnarok?

Well, the most rumored character Blanchett may be portraying is Amora the Enchantress.

Amora is an Asgardian sorceress who possesses many of the same abilities as Thor (minus his thunder abilities), as well as magic that allows her to manipulate people.

She is common foe of Thor in the comic series, and had a prolific role during the Ragnarok story arc, which the film will be partially based on.

While Amora is a safe bet, there is a slight chance Blanchett could portray Death.

Yep, actual Death. In the Marvel universe, the concept of Death is also physically manifested into a cosmic being.

This being, Mistress Death, has a large role in the Infinity War conflict (which the next Avengers films will take inspiration from), as Thanos the Mad Titan falls in love with her, and in order to please her, he gathers the Infinity Stones.

While this setup for the Infinity War film will probably be omitted (because it’s wacky), we would still love it if Death made her way into the MCU.

Thor: Ragnarok will be directed by Taika Waititi, and written by Stephany Folsom. Confirmed MCU characters set to return include Thor (Chris Hemsworth, duh), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Lady Sif (Jamie Alexander), and Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

Whether it be the Enchantress, Death, or another mystery character, we’d be happy just to see Cate Blanchett in a MCU film.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
