‘Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’ Trailer Becomes Most Disliked in YouTube History

Infinite Warfare joins the ranks of Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black to be one of the most disliked videos in YouTube’s history.

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]o say that the reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare didn’t go down well with fans of the series since it’s release just over a week ago would be a colossal understatement. According to Forbes, it gained 300,000 dislikes within its first week, making the most disliked YouTube video in the gaming category.

Now however, it’s a different story. With an insane amount of dislikes, which roughly hits a ridiculously huge 1.84 million (with only 320,000 likes), it has become the most disliked trailer of all time on YouTube.

In all of Youtube’s history, the trailer ranks in 4th place in the most disliked video list, following three music videos which includes the likes of Justin Bieber’s Baby Ft. Ludacris, and Rebecca Black’s infamous FridayInfinite Warefare now beats out Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball and Psy’s Gangnam Style for the 4th spot.

Here is the offending trailer below:

So why has this trailer gotten so much beef?

It probably didn’t help that it came out at the same time as the trailer for Battlefield 1, the latest release for COD’s biggest rival franchise. Battlefield 1 is certainly the polar opposite to Infinite Warfare, achieving an impressive 1.3 million likes and only 24,000 dislikes.

News recently surfaced that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is getting a remastered makeover release this year. The game was one of the strongest in the series, particularity in regards to its multi-player game-play and maps. Fans have been campaigning for a remastered edition for a while, and when Activision delivered, the internet veritably exploded with excitement.

However, the remaster could factor in to the trailer’s backlash. Word is that remastered game will only be accessible as a digital download if you buy Infinite Warfare, in an apparent bid to push up salesIf true, this is essentially forcing fans to buy the new title – regardless of whether they want to or not – if they want to get their hands on the remastered Modern Warfare; which would understandably upset the COD community.

Another contributing factor seems to the futuristic setting of Infinite Warfare. It would have been refreshing to see it revert back to its old roots after having the recent releases follow this new futuristic trend. Infinite Warfare doesn’t look too different from Black Ops 3 in style, and the setting has left many with an overwhelming feeling of indifference.

With the dislikes hitting such a ludicrous number, it’s hard to know if the ridiculous volume is actually indicative of how well the game will do. It seems that the newest COD title has fallen victim to an internet war of sorts between Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1, with the latter obviously coming out on top.

The salt mine that is the comment section on Infinite Warfare’s trailer has a lot of humourous remarks along the lines of ‘I’ve disliked this with three accounts,’ but in general, most have been pretty harsh about the game, with many expressing their distaste for what looks to be quite a lacklustre COD release.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is set to be released alongside the remastered Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 4 November, 2016.
