UPDATE 11/22/17: The official Pokémon website confirmed today that the two-episode special will air in the US on Disney XD, with the first episode premiering November 25 at 9:30 am and the second the following Saturday, December 2. The original story (8/28/17) follows:
Ash Ketchum’s original traveling companions from the Pokémon anime series are coming back! In a new issue of the Japanese kids’ magazine Telubi-kun, it was revealed that Brock and Misty will reunite with Ash in two special episodes of Pokémon Sun & Moon, the current incarnation of the series, airing in Japan on September 14 and 21.
A scan of Telubi-kun (below) reveals that Ash’s buddies received new character designs to fit the more cartoony art style of the Sun & Moon series. This fluid, bright makeover has been divisive to say the least, but we think Brock and Misty look real cute. They’re even wearing their original clothes!
The scan also revealed that the episodes featuring Brock and Misty will see Ash traveling back to Kanto to visit his old Pokémon, and then reuniting with his old pals. He will then battle the duo, with Brock fighting with a Mega-Steelix (presumably the evolved form of this old Onix), and Misty with a Mega-Gyarados.

Even though English fans will have probably have to wait a while before the dub of this episode makes it stateside (Pokémon Sun & Moon currently airs on Disney XD here btw), it’s still cool to see the anime acknowledge everyone’s favorite Kanto companions, and give longtime fans some sweet nostalgia.
