Gearbox Software never directly said the software was for Borderlands 3.
[dropcap size=small]L[/dropcap]ets be real here for a second. As far as the images below are concerned, they look incredibly similar to the kind of images we would expect from a Borderlands game and if history is any indicator this is a major hint at what is to come for Borderlands 3.
However, during a Game Developers Conference Randy Pitchford, the boss of Gearbox Software, reiterated many times that this was a tech demo and nothing more. If I had to make a guess I would say that Pitchford wanted to keep the direction Gearbox is heading in under wraps so fans can be kept in the dark as long as possible.
Pitchford went on to discuss the new tools that Gearbox has been working with and he was visibly excited about the program saying that “allows the scene to simulate in real time as time of day changes or conceivably we have different physics, if we, for example, were to explore different planets. There might be different physics, and the sun and the moons might be in different positions than we’re used to on Pandora.” Pitchford ended the presentation saying “If you’re a customer htat’s looking forward to a future Borderlands game, we’re working on it. We’ll get you soon.”
