There was a nearly overwhelming amount of Borderlands 3 news and updates from Pitchford and Gearbox today at PAX. Luckily we have guys like Paul Tassi who cover that sort of thing in great detail so let’s gather up all of what was announced in short and sweet bullet-points, shall we?
Epic Games vs Steam
First, the Epic Games Store deal that saw Borderlands 3 sold there exclusively is coming to an end. The game will be available on Steam on March 13. You can click the widget below to add it to your Wishlist now.
Cross-Save
Gearbox has confirmed that along with selling the game on another online store (Steam), both Steam and Epic Games Store players will be able to play with one another, and cross-save will be allowed for both, should you decide to pick up both PC versions of the game.
DLC 2: Guns, Love And Tentacles
Borderlands 3 will see its second of four major DLCs with Guns, Love, and Tentacles (no Oxford comma, though). The story features Hammerlock marrying Jakobs on a planet where an old tentacled vault monster corpse resides, and the locals who worship the dead creature like a god, plan to interfere with the marriage plans.
Gaige the Mechromancer is returning as the alleged wedding planner for the event as well. Always nice to see returning characters.
Team up with old friends and eerie new characters to help true love triumph over eldritch horror. “Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock” comes to Borderlands 3 on March 26!
Mayhem Update
Mayhem 2.0, as it is being referred, will consist of at least 25 new mods, but not all the details were shared. All we know, aside from the previous sentence, is that the BL3 devs are completely retooling the modifier system. More details to come soon.
Legendaries and Class Mods
New mods, at least 25, and legendary weapons are on their way. More details soon.
Holiday Updates
Whether you pick up the paid DLC or not, Moxxi’s Heist and Guns, Love And Tentacles, there are still goodies for you to come in the form of free holiday events. Coming this April, all players will receive the limited time ‘Revenge of the Cartels’ update for free. No word on how long the event will run for, but we suspect it will be around a week or so like the previous ‘Broken Hearts Day’ event. It should also be noted that ‘Revenge of the Cartels’ is not an actual holiday, though we assume it will align with either April Fools or some other April holiday, whatever that could be.
Future DLCs
Gearbox has promised that there will be at least four total paid DLCs, with the next to feature ‘outlaws and dinosaurs’ where players may be able to ride a dinosaur-like alien species. Tassi states that Randy Pitchford, President and CEO of Gearbox, hinted that the fourth and final DLC will feature Krieg in some way, but that is all we got for that one.
There are more details of what was shared, so if you want to dig in deeper into all that stuff, head over and read Tassi’s breakdown. He does a good job with that sort of thing.
