True sequels to the beloved RTS games could happen soon.
It has been some time since we’ve seen a new entry in the Starcraft series, and even longer since a Warcraft game without “World of” in front of it.
However, that may change soon enough, as more entries in real-time strategy game series could happen in the near future.
During an interview regarding StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void, producer Tim Morten told IGN that the new expansions to the existing StarCraft/Warcraft games does not mean we’ll never see a new entry in these franchises.
Morten explains that, “It’s very rewarding for us to hear that there’s demand out there for more RTS content in the Warcraft universe so once we’re done with Void I think we’ll get together as a team and talk about what would inspire us to work on next. There’s no question, though, that we’ll consider Warcraft, StarCraft, or even new ideas. Anything is possible.”
If anything is indeed possible, then fans of the very popular franchises should keep hope that new games will come. After all, it has been 13 years since we’ve seen a proper Warcraft sequel.
Blizzard continues to support the very well-known MMORPG World of Warcraft with expansions (the latest one, Legion, was recently announced), but maybe if popularity of the series surges with the release of the upcoming film adaptation, they might continue to support the beloved original series.
As for StarCraft, a third entry is probably farther off then a new Warcraft game, considering the Legacy of the Void expansion was recently announced. Check out the trailer for it below.
