‘Black Ops III’ Has no Single Player Campaign for PS3 or 360

The sequel will also launch at $10 less on last-gen platforms.

Sad news for CoD fans who don’t own a current gen console.

Activision has announced that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops III will not include the single player campaign mode. The game will launch on these platforms with only the multiplayer and Zombies modes.

It was explained on the Call of Duty Blog that Blops III was developed primarily on current gen consoles in order to “harness the full potential” of these powerful platforms, and that “the ambitious scope of the 1-4 player co-op campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware.”

While a definite bummer for those who don’t have the latest gaming hardware, Activision has softened the blow by reducing the price of the PS3/360 version of the game to $50 rather than $60.

A nice gesture, sure, but we think knocking another $10 would be more fair, especially since this version of the game is losing somewhere close to 10 hours worth of content with no campaign.

Also concerning is the fact that the PS3/360 version of the game is being developed by Beenox and Mercenary Technology, and not the usual developer Treyarch Studios. Might be best to wait for review scores, past gen console owners.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III will release on both past and current gaming platforms on November 6.
