A new fact was discovered about Lex Luthor that has people turning their heads!
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman vs. Superman was out of nowhere because no one expected Eisenberg to get the role. One of the popular fan choices to win the role was Bryan Cranston. His role in Breaking Bad as a meth kingpin made him an ideal match for the role, but Warner Bros. thought otherwise and picked Eisenberg. But we have seen actors in the past that seem like they are in out-of-place roles and still do a great job.
Fortune did a “profile piece” on Alexander Joseph Luthor Jr., a 31-year old jeans-wearing genious and baby-faced billionaire. Luthor was interviewed while waiting in-line outside the LexCorp vegan food truck, with his arms tattooed, his hipster-like hair all dirty. Doesn’t sound like the type of guy you would typically hangout with on a daily basis.
The piece started with Luthor’s backstory.
Dad named the company after himself ten years before I made my unexpected entrance into his life. But investors seemed to respond to the idea of an adoring father building a legacy for his precious son. He used that to his advantage. It was a good shtick and, whatever else he was, he was a good businessman.
Alexander Luthor Sr. is an “East German émigré, who passed away unexpectedly in 2000,” who “arrived on our shores with nothing, but managed to carve out an empire of oil and machinery.” It’s no accident the article mentions Lex Luthor’s dad is an immigrant. The trailer for Batman v Superman wasn’t shy about using Superman as an allegory for immigration.
In the article, it mentions how Wayne Enterprises is moving away from military contracts. But unlike Bruce Wayne (played by Ben Affleck), Luthor praises and embraces military contracts.
It’s a necessity. We live in the most dangerous point of time in all of human history. Statistically speaking, it’s a near certainty that another world-changing crisis is hurtling toward us like a speeding bullet. We have to be ready to defend ourselves. No civilization was ever conquered by having a strong military.
Although the current Lex Luthor has been modernized a bit, he still fits the role that has been iterated in previous roles.
Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters on March 25th, 2016!
