Avengers: Endgame Sinks Titanic, Now Second-Highest Grossing Film of All Time

All that's left is James Cameron's other mega-hit: Avatar

After just two weeks at the box office, Avengers: Endgame is now the second-highest grossing film of all time. It pulled in over $147 million domestically during the weekend, thus toppling the former number #2 movie at the box office, Titanic, with a whopping $2.1 billion.

This momentum of course builds off the film’s staggering $350 million domestic opening weekend, which destroyed the previous opening weekend record set by Avengers: Infinity War last year by nearly $100 million.

With Titanic out of the way, Endgame needs now only to topple the box office juggernaut Avatar, which has been the #1 highest-grossing film for nearly a decade at nearly $2.8 billion. Below is the top five highest grossing films worldwide, per Box Office Mojo.

Can Endgame beat Avatar?

Maybe. It’s important to note that while Endgame has made an unbelievable amount of cash in just a couple of weeks, the film has started the 2019 summer movie season. So enough heavy hitters like Detective Pikachu and Aladdin will be released, taking away potential repeat viewers.

Avatar released during winter 2009, when it faced little competition for the following months, where it made the bulk of its box office total.

However, it has only been two weeks, and like you, I’m probably going to see Endgame again very soon. We’ll have to wait and see if the bittersweet culmination to the current MCU can topple those big-blue sexy cat people.
