[dropcap size=small]G[/dropcap]ame of Thrones star Maisie Williams is in talks to play the lead character Ellie in the film adaptation of the Naughty Dog survival game The Last of Us. Rumors originally started circulating in July during San Diego Comic-Con, and not much else was heard about the film until the actress’s recent interview with Flicks and the City.
Comingsoon.net is reporting that Screen Gems came in contact with Williams to appear in the movie, and while production seems to moving very slowly, she would still be interested in starring in the film if it continues to move forward.
She explained:
“Honestly I would love to and I think they would love me to play Ellie also, and that’s where it is at the moment. There’s no script, no director, it’s still very early days for the whole project, but if it all goes ahead soon enough I think, yeah, I would love to.”
The film’s screenplay is being written by Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, who also composed the game’s script. He is also serving as the film’s producer alongside the game’s director Bruce Straley, Naughty Dog co-presidents Christophe Balestra and Evan Wells, and prolific horror/sci-fi director Sam Raimi. The movie will be produced under Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures label.
The Last of Us was released last year for PlayStation 3 and 4 and proved itself to be a genuine hit with a large audience, comprised of critics and gamers alike. Are you excited at the prospect of The Last of Us coming to the silver screen? We’d like to know!
