[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]arner Bros. made a huge announcement on Wednesday, revealing the lineup of 10 upcoming DC superhero flicks. That news overshadowed another little brick of news – that it is now confirmed that LEGO Batman is getting his own spinoff film! So, technically, that means Warner Bros. has 10.5 superhero films on the way!
The LEGO Batman Movie is reportedly being fast-tracked for a 2017 release, following the Ninjago film – which is slated for 2016. The LEGO Movie 2 has been pushed back for a 2018 release.
The LEGO Batman Movie will be helmed by director Chris McKay (Robot Chicken), who served as the animation supervisor for The Lego Movie. Screenwriter-author Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter) will be writing the script.
It was also confirmed that actor Will Arnett will return to provide the voice for LEGO Batman!
The LEGO brand has proved to be incredibly lucrative, with properties like LEGO Batman, LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Harry Potter – basically there is no shortage of properties to LEGO-fy. These franchises have seen massive success not only in film, but with best-selling video games as well.
