At first, Square Enix was working with CyberConnect2 to work on the Final Fantasy VII Remake. However, Square decided to make the game with their own team.
CyberConnect2 is known for Naruto and .hack games. During the year of 2015 Square originally planned to work with CyberConnect 2 on this big title; but Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the affair was a “sensitive subject.” Hearing a statement like that usually means there was some kind of disagreement between both parties. And let’s face it, Final Fantasy VII is the baby of Square Enix. The remake to this franchise is one that Square Enix does not wait to become a flop, because that would be a major blow to Square. Hamaguchi had the following to say about the issue at hand.
“I’ve taken over the development side of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake,” Hamaguchi said. “Up until now, development has progressed by receiving external collaboration, but from here on out, with production and quality in mind, we’re shifting to our in-house organization. This company decision was made wanting to control quality as well as keeping the schedule stable.”
What on earth caused this falling out? Well, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase stated that Nomura wasn’t fond of the FFVII Remake trailer developed by CyberConnect2. It turns out that Nomura wanted the trailer to have more a Square Enix vibe. How much of a setback in production will this disconnect between both parties cause? Only time will tell.
