A script is needed in order to take the next step in Star Trek 4!

[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n an interview on the Today ShowStar Trek actor Zachary Quinto said that Star Trek 4 is planned, but a script has yet to be released for the cast. Quinto talked about the script not being done, but still being optimistic about it.

“I know that they are working on a script for another one and we’ll see how that all plays out, but the nice thing about that experience is that the time in between those big tentpole films allows us to go off and cultivate a lot of different creative experiences for ourselves. … I’m hopeful that we’ll do another one, but there’s no guarantee.”

Producer J.J. Abrams confirmed the fourth installment of the franchise and the story would include bringing back Chris Hemsworth as Captain Kirk, the father of James Kirk who died in the first movie to save his son. Considering that there isn’t very much to build off of, cast members are thinking that this movie might not happen overall. About a month ago, Chris Pine talked about how he didn’t know about Star Trek 4 until an unlikely co-worker told him.

“I am literally one of the last people to find out. Costume designers find out before me. Prop people find out before me. I can’t wait to make the film. I love everyone in the film. You know that. I love the world. I will be back as many times as they ask me. I love the tall man they call Thor. I’ll do this film. If you can talk to [Star Trek producer] J.J. [Abrams] for me, please do. Let him tell me. I’d like to find out so I can plan my life.”

It looks like Paramount Pictures isn’t in a rush to get the script done and want to make sure that everything for the movie is in place. Chris Hemsworth said he “loved the pitch for the movie.” Abrams called it “his favorite Star Trek story that we’ve had.” Just those two quotes should mean that Paramount Pictures wants this movie to happen.

We’ve seen movies take a while to develop before eventually being put on the big screen. This could be what Star Trek 4 is going through right now. The movie is still in development and actors Simon Pegg and Doug Jung are working on the script with writers. So this isn’t condemning Star Trek 4 by any means. Hopefully sometime this summer, we will have an update on the movie that’s heading in the right direction.
