South Park won’t be Switching things up with Nintendo.

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he upcoming South Park game The Fractured But Whole won’t be making its way to the Nintendo Switch.

You may be wondering when the notion that Cartman and co. were switching things up even became a possibility on the game grapevine. Well, it’s all thanks to one single cryptic tweet on South Park’s official Twitter page. The tweet shows a GIF of a frozen Cartman with a caption that claims he’s coming for Nintendo.

After the offending tweet was posted, speculation spread like wildfire on Reddit and various social media sites, and the general consensus was that the tweet hinted at a Switch release.

If you really read into it, you can see why many came to the same conclusion. Cartman being frozen could easily be interpreted as a tongue-in-cheek way of representing the game’s delay, which Nintendo would then potentially thaw with a Switch release. I know it’s reaching a little, but it certainly got fans excited.

With the delays surrounding The Fractured But Whole’s release – which was originally set for December 2016 –  it wasn’t such an outlandish idea to believe a Switch port could have been on the horizon.

But alas, it is not to be so.

A South Park representative from Comedy Central reached out to IGN (via Travelers Today) to clarify a Switch release won’t be happening:

“South Park: The Fractured But Whole won’t be coming to [the Nintendo] Switch.”

It’s pretty cut and dry.

The GIF was taken from an episode of South Park where Cartman waited in the freezing cold for the release of the Wii back in 2006 – which is an apt choice for hinting at a Switch release when you think about it. In actuality, it was chosen in response to a blizzard that swept through the eastern coast in the U.S. in recent weeks.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole is said to be released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC sometime between April 2017–March 2018. No fixed date has been announced as of yet.
