First Homecoming and now this? 2017 is shaping up to be a great year for Spider-Man fans.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]fter weeks of speculation, Sony has made the official announcement that their upcoming animated Spider-Man movie will feature Miles Morales as its main character.
If you’re unfamiliar with Morales, all you really need to know is that he’s Black Hispanic and is basically just like Peter Parker’s Spider-Man but with a cooler costume.
Sony’s official tweets also confirm that Bob Persichetti (Puss In Boots, The Little Prince) and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians) are set to direct while frequent makers of pure gold Phil Lord and Chris Miller will produce.

News of an an animated Spider-Man movie first broke at CinemaCon back in April of 2015 with Phil Lord and Chris Miller set to produce alongside Avi Arad and email leak victim Amy Pascal. The film was originally aiming for a summer 2018 release but has since been pushed back to December 21, 2018.
We still don’t have any plot details but with Lord and Miller on board the property is surely in good hands.
