Everyday we’re Dumblin’.
[dropcap size=small]J[/dropcap].K. Rowling’s wizarding world is making it’s way back to the big screens this month in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. That in and of itself is great news for fans of Rowling’s world of magic, but we couldn’t help but hope to see some familiar faces from the Harry Potter franchise pop up at some point.
Given that Fantastic Beasts will be set 70 years prior to Potter’s day in 1926, it does limit which characters we could feasibly see, but fans have been quick to hope that our favourite magical headmaster Albus Dumbledore will make an appearance as his younger self.
After all, Dumbledore was born in 1881, which would make him 44 years-old when we meet Newt Scamander in New York City, so it’s always been within the realms of possibility.
Since there’s going to be five Fantastic Beasts movies in total, we were pretty happy to bank on seeing Dumbledore at some point, and thanks to a teaser trailer back in April which even mentioned him by name, we were ever the more optimistic that our wish to see him return would come true.
Well, Dumbledore fans can officially rejoice, because we’re happy to report that the Hogwarts headmaster will be returning to the big screens in the second Fantastic Beasts movie. Director David Yates confirmed the return of Dumbledore during a Fantastic Beasts press junket (via Screenrant):
“In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt… We’re discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good. [Laughs]”
Yep. I think now is the perfect time to wheel out one of my favourite GIFs to mark this momentous news.
We don’t yet know who will be playing Dumbledore’s younger self in the planned sequel, but we’re nevertheless delighted to hear he’ll be returning in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, and we can’t wait to find out how and why he’ll be included.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be making it’s way to the big screens 18 November, 2016.
