J.K. Rowling surprises fans of the wizarding world by revealing Fantastic Beasts will be made up of “five movies.”
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]e’ve known for some time that J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was definitely going to be more than one film. With a sequel confirmed shortly after the first trailer hit – thanks to news surfacing that Rowling had already penned the second movie’s screen play – we have long since assumed it would most likely be a trilogy of films.
But, as it turns out, fans of Rowling’s wizarding world can truly rejoice, because Fantastic Beasts is in fact going to be made up of five films.
Yep. Five.
Rowling broke the news that her latest project will be a quintet at a promotional event at Leicester Square in London, during which she revealed (via The BBC) the story is set to unfold over five separate movies:
“We always knew it was going to be more than one movie, and we said a trilogy as a place holder. But I’ve done the plotting properly and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be five movies.”
Fans were quick to raise the alarm about the inherent danger of quantity over quality when it comes to franchises that run on for so long, but Rowling took to twitter to offer some assurances in regard to such concerns:
@jk_rowling 5 movies ? Don’t you think it’s to much ? You have to much to say with only 1 book ?

I think, when you realise what story we’re *really* telling, you’ll understand that it can’t possibly fit in one movie! https://t.co/xV5vYwCDdr

So there you have it – it looks like we can hopefully rest easy.
After we recently learnt Harry’s story is officially over, it’s nice to know Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is there to satiate our wizarding world hunger pangs.
With five films now in the line-up, there’s certainly going to be no shortage of magic on our big screens in the years to come.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to hit theatres 18 November, 2016.
