The princess herself gives her version of why the two lovebirds parted after Episode VI.
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he one and only Carrie Fisher recently sat down in an interview at the Saskatoon Comic & Entertainer Expo to talk about the cast of Star Wars and even gave her own two cents on why the space smuggler and princess broke up following the events that took place in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. After all, everyone thought Han and Leia were the perfect couple so how exactly did the two of them not work out?
Apparently it was Han’s dirty habits, at least according to Carrie Fisher, that broke the two up. While the books, which are sadly no longer canon, said otherwise it would appear that Han wasn’t satisfied with a life of peace and quiet with the new Rebel Alliance and the love of his life. So after the almost total destruction of the Empire, Han Solo fell back on what he was best at, smuggling.
Carrie Fisher: “He smuggled way too much and, girls, I know you don’t want your husbands smuggling, do you? Hanging out with the hairy guy too often. I think there’s a lot of problems with that. Wouldn’t take me on the hyperspace thing enough. [pause] Euphemism.
Moderator: “Not enough, right?”
Fisher: “Not enough. Well, you know, we’d been together a while…”
Moderator: “And the hyperspace gets old after that long together, you know?”
Fisher: “No, it doesn’t. No. We’ve got robots for that.”
Safe to say she certainly makes a good point. Although I personally don’t see a problem with Chewbacca being around so often, the guy is Han’s best friend after all and a great body guard at that.
