[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n a few weeks Valve’s visual storefront will be getting a minor facelift, its first since 2014. Steamworks developers were given an update announcement pertaining to the changes, thanks to The Tech Report for the tip. None of the changes seem to be drastic, the update will be mostly navigational and aesthetic, like larger game images on the Steam homepage.
However, some new features will please gamers, like a “Popular Among Friends” section. There will also be curated section of suggested games as well as a discovery que based on the users past choices. Also, new preferences will allow users to filter out unwanted sections like VR, Early Releases, or Newly Updated.
The update could help the smaller developers on Steam because the views their games will receive will be more meaningful. Before Valve only promised that developers would receive a set amount of guaranteed appearances on the New Releases and Recently Added sections of the store. This could result in less guaranteed views but more views from users likely to pay for and play their games.
Stay tuned to Geek Outpost for more updates as they become available.
