Perhaps Rihanna’s acting will be better in Ocean’s 8 than it was in Battleship?
[dropcap size=small]E[/dropcap]verything is finally coming together for the Ocean’s 11 spin-off and it appears that the film has all but one actress lined up to star in the film. So far Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock have signed on for the film and deals for Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, and Rihanna are close to being finalized. Waner Bros. confirmed that filming would begin in October and will be directed by Gary Ross who has directed thrilling films like The Hunger Games and Free State of Jones.
With the original trilogy starring George Clooney and others surpassing a $1 billion worldwide, Ocean’s 8 has to live up to high expectations and hold up to the reputation that all-star actors appear in the film(s). The film does include two Oscar winners, Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett, and actresses like Anne Hathaway and Helena Carter have both proven that they possess superb talent. Mindy Kaling has generally been given the role of a comedic character and it would be safe to bet that the actress’ character in Ocean’s 8 could be the comedic relief for the film.
As for Awkwafina and Rihanna, both singers/actresses have yet to show us what talent aside from singing they may have. Granted, they haven’t necessarily been given all that many chances to prove themselves and very few singers turned actors hit the ground running so to speak.
At the same time, back in 1960, the original Ocean’s crew were nearly filled with singers of that time. Singers like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and others made up the majority of the main characters so it is almost fitting that Rihanna and Awkwafina are set to star in the film.
There is no set release date for Ocean’s 8 at this time.
