Ben Affleck says Batman will be Funnier in ‘Justice League’ Film

No more sad Affleck?

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he funniest thing to come out of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was the sad Affleck meme which was born in the aftermath of the film’s release. The movie was dark to say the least and naturally Batman wasn’t exactly a laugh a minute, but that was never expected; he is the brooding Dark Knight after all.

Thanks to an interview from BirthMoviesDeath with Ben Affleck it looks like this is set to change slightly. Affleck revealed we’ll be getting a funnier caped crusader in the upcoming Justice League movie (due out in 2017), but the humour we can expect will still be in-keeping with Batman’s persona:

“Yeah, he’s a little bit more sardonic, humor, a little more irony. He’s a little more of a man on a mission this time. As opposed to being so full of anger because of what happened at the Black Zero Event. That kind of rage that possessed him. And now he’s on a mission to get this group together. To constitute this League. But, more of his, that sort of Bruce Wayne, wry, ironic gallows humor comes out. He’s not like a “haha” jokey, but that sort of stuff comes out a little bit. A bit of his sort of darker humor stuff is present.”

So we’ll be getting Batman with side of dark humour, which seems quite fitting for batfleck.

Since the film will involve a lot of DC heroes banding together – with the likes of Wonderwoman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg – the group dynamic is sure to bring out some humourous moments. Batman is known for being a bit of loner, so rallying a team and working with others isn’t really Batman’s strongest suit, leaving the door open for even more humour – as Affleck explains:

“[T]hat’s sort of the interesting thing about this Batman is that on the one hand, he’s sort of the ultimate loner, but on the other hand, he’s sort of tasked with putting together a group. So is the guy who basically broods in a cave all day really the best person to put together a team of superheroes? And he doesn’t have huge success initially. He rubs some people the wrong way or they rub him the wrong way, he’s got to figure out how to play well with others. He barely knows how to play well with Alfred.”

The brooding cave dweller will have to fight against his loner instincts and change up his attitude in order to get the group of heroes to work together effectively, and this challenge will hopefully offer up some funny moments. Zach Snyder is back directing the latest DC flick with Henry Cavill, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Gal Gadot and many other big names joining a slightly funnier Affleck for a round of Justice League action.

Justice League is due to hit the big screens 17 November, 2017.
