I Kenobi-lieve it!
[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]irstly, Ewan McGregor would like it to go on the record that he is in fact not campaigning for a Star Wars spin off film, featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi. He spoke with Steve Weintraub from Collider about the possibility of doing the movie:
“I’d very much like to do one too. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there’s a story there. I think that’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one. The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alec’s Obi-Wan Kenobi because there’s a—I don’t know how long he’s in the desert there, but it’s got to be twenty or thirty years.“
Many fans decided to take that as he was “campaigning” for LucasFilms to do the movie. It’s certainly a great idea, and would make for a compelling and interesting story. However, in a new interview with the actor, he was asked about any reaction from LucasFilms towards the comments for the spin-off film:
“If they asked me to, I would be happy to. But it looks like I am campaigning for it, just because I get asked about it, all the time. So, I would like it to be known that I don’t bring it up, at these interviews, of my own free will. I only respond to questions I’m asked to. I don’t know anything about it. They’ve never approached me about it.”
It seems as though his approach to it is out of genuine interest and care for the fan base. He doesn’t want to come across in any negative way about the possibility or seem totally disgruntled about all the comments and attention brought to it.
But hey, pressuring the studio worked with Deadpool, so why couldn’t it also work here?
