Good news for all you horror fans out there.
Gun Media and developer IllFonic have recently announced Friday the 13th: The Game for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
The game is set to be a third-person asymmetrical multiplayer game, where one player takes the role of Jason, and seven other players are camp counselors trying to escape his murderous rampage.
Camp Crystal Lake, from the films, will serve as the game’s setting, and it is being conceived as a “semi-open world” game, so expect more than a few places to hide from Mr. Voorhees.
While the game sounds like a blast, it’s development is not a sure thing yet. Gun Media has chose to Kickstart the game, and they are looking to earn at least $700,000 from crowdfunding.
Gun Media explained that they have chose Kickstarter, rather than working with an established game publisher, because it would allow them to fully realize a game that would capture the spirit of Friday the 13th. Meaning, a publisher won’t be able to force them to remove the excess amounts of violence or nudity.
“We’re not interested in compromising what made the film franchise so popular,” Gun Media explained to Gamespot. “We’re interested in building precisely what we, as fans, want. The ultimate Friday the 13th experience. Blood, guts, gore, brutal kills, and more. You want an experience true to the films, and so do we. It’s about creative control and delivering the best game we can. We want to share that control, with you, not a publisher.”
Friday the 13th: The Game is set to release in October 2016, that is, if the game is funded.
