Will Smith May Not Return for ‘Bad Boys 3’

It is possible the Fresh Prince will only produce the upcoming sequel.

Sony Pictures has recently revealed their new movie schedule, which contains 16 films releasing over the course of the next few years. Included in this list are Uncharted, a new Resident Evil, a Jumanji reboot (ugh), and two Bad Boys sequels.

Yes, Bad Boys, the action comedy series directed by Michael Bay and starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as detective buddies. It appears that the 12 year dormant franchise is finally returning, however, one of the stars may not be actually appearing in the film.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Will Smith will be involved with Bad Boys 3 in some capacity, but as of now, Smith is not dedicated to portraying his character again. He may just be involved with the film as a producer, but he may eventually decide to act in the film as well.

Not long ago, it was hard to imagine that we would ever see a Bad Boys film again. The films have performed modestly at the box office, and the reviews aren’t different from Michael Bay’s other films (negative), but for some reason, Sony wants to bring the series back.

It is even harder to imagine a Bad Boys film without Smith in the lead role, and this wouldn’t be the first long-awaited sequel Smith isn’t starring in (looking at you, Independence Day 2).

So let’s hope Smith returns in front of the camera for the upcoming sequel, and that film will be more silly and ridiculous (like the scene below) then dumb and obnoxious (like the scene below).

Bad Boys 3 hits theaters on February 17th, 2017.
