Vaughn joins Andrew Garfield in WWII drama Hacksaw Ridge, which Fox recently confirmed will shoot in Australia.
[dropcap size=small]V[/dropcap]ince Vaughn, currently starring in HBO’s True Detective, has signed up to play a sergeant in the Mel Gibson-directed Hacksaw Ridge, Variety reports. Vaughn will star alongside Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Social Network), who will play protagonist Desmond T. Doss, the first man to win the Congressional Medal of Honor having claimed the right to refuse military service. Doss was a medic during World War II, and saved dozens of soldiers in the Battle of Okinawa, despite a conscientious objection.
Production has now moved down under, with Fox announcing last week that the film’s new shooting locations will be spread across New South Wales, Australia. Filming begins in September.
Hacksaw Ridge is due for a 2017 release.
