The straight to digital movie will be available for rent or purchase on July 1st.
[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]ead Rising Watchtower, the original movie based on Capcom’s popular zombie franchise, will be available for public release through most digital platforms on July 1st. Watchtower was first released on Sony’s streaming service Crackle in March but this will be the full public release. The movie focuses on a new character in the series, a reporter named Chase Carter (Jesse Metcalfe), who when looking for a story, finds himself in the middle of the zombie apocalypse.
Many fans were upset with the movie not having a theatrical release. Director Zach Lipovsky has commented on this saying that they wanted to try something experimental because since the movie had a smaller budget, it allowed more freedom. “Online there is no ratings board, there is no run time limit, there are no rules,” Lipovsky said on the subject in an interview from October.
Dead Rising: Watchtower stars Jesse Metcalfe, Dennis Haysbert, Virginia Madsen, Meghan Ory, Keegan Connor Tracy, and Rob Riggle and will be digitally released on July 1st.
